About Us
Yu Kwen Yick was founded by Mr. Yu Siu Kee. He was born in the Guangdong Shundea. There, he learned his skills of making chili sauce. Until he was 18, he came all the way to Hong Kong by himself, and started his chili sauce business in Sai Ying Pun. The business grew as his sauces became famous in the neighbourhood.
The name of the company is originated from a couplet of Mr. Yu Siu Kee’s friend. “Kwen Yick” means “benefit for all”. Over the past decades, Yu Kwen Yick has been honest with their customers in running their own business.
Yu Kwen Yick's Shop on Third Street, Sai Ying Pun
In 1950, Mr. Yu Siu Kee opened a shop on Third Street, Sai Ying Pun. His friend gave him a Chinese couplet ; after that, he took the name of the company, “Yu Kwen Yick” from it. In the same year, he established a factory nearby the shop to produce chili sauce, chili bean sauce and so on.

Establishment of a Limited Company

In 1969, Yu Kwen Yick Food Products Manufactory Limited was established.
1977

Establishment
In 1922, Yu Kwen Yick’s founder, Mr. Yu Siu Kee started his chili sauce business in a tenement of Sai Ying Pun. He used to sell the sauces by carrying the stock on a pole across his shoulders and walking from Sai Ying Pun to North Point. Then, the business was getting more and more popular.
1950


Exhibitor of Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo
In 1954, Mr. Yu Siu Kee participated in Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo. Yu Kwen Yick shot to fame by the expo and the business was becoming increasingly successful.
1969

Second-generation Owner
In 1977, since the founder passed away, Mr. Yu Hong Kuen started to take a full control of family business.



Third-generation Owner
2007

In 2007, Mr. Yu Kai Chiu took over the third-generation owner of the company.


New Shop Design
2008
In 2008, Yu Kwen Yick’s shop moved to No.32, Second Street, Sai Ying Pun.

2015

Dream of Chili Sauce
In 2015, Yu Kwen Yick’s shop moved to a new location on No.66, Third Street, Sai Ying Pun. In the same year, Yu Kwen Yick’s products were sold in an online store “Ztore”.
